Why I’m Going Back To Basics
It’s November and honestly, I still think I’m carrying the extra weight I put on during our magical trip to Lapland back in March. Yes, you read that right, March!
How have I not got my bum back into gear and shifted the few pounds I put on? I’ve said it before, there never is a perfect time to ‘get in the zone’ you might comfort eat in winter but what about all the social eating (and drinking!) through the summer? Last night I read a meme on Instagram that said losing weight isn’t just about losing weight, it’s about losing the bad habits that put the weight on in the first place. Nailed it. That’s exactly what it’s about and I lost a lot of bad habits when I started my Weight Watchers journey back in 2014. But you know the problem with bad habits? They can creep back in so easily!
So, I’m drawing a line in the sand and going back to basics. I want to shift the few pounds I’ve put on since our holiday (way too long ago to still be carrying the extra weight) and I also want to shed a few more so I get to the end of 2018 feeling lighter and more energised. When I say going back to basics, what do I actually mean? I’ve made a list of bad habits I’m cutting out again and my good intentions for the coming weeks:
- Kids leftovers go in the bin or the dog bowl not in your mouth!
- Overeating only makes you feel sluggish – don’t do it!
- Healthy snacks make you feel fuller for longer and can avoid the sugar crash
- Meal plan. Meal plan. Meal plan
- Go easy on the carbs and remember all those delicious substitutes such as butternut squash wedges and cauliflower rice
- Less caffeine
- Drink more water
- Boredom does not equal hunger
There is no rocket science involved in the list above. It really is the basics and the fundamental key to my success when I lost most of my weight. I’m excited to be getting my mojo back and have already started scouring the internet for new recipes I can try. I love to cook and I love it even more when I find healthy delicious recipes. I see so often on social media people posting photos of their ‘diet’ tea and more often than not it’s cherry tomatoes, lettuce and sliced meat of some description, possibly even a bit of beetroot thrown in for good measure. If that was the eating plan I had to follow I’d still be two stone heavier because there’s no way I could have stuck to it. There are loads of great recipes out there for currys, casseroles, pasta dishes and some can even be adapted and portioned into healthy exciting lunches. We especially love the Quorn Chinese curry and it is so easy to make. I’m making it for tea tonight and I’m serving mine with cauli rice.
Don’t wait until January 2nd to start your healthy eating. Make a start now, kick those bad habits out and bring on the good intentions.
