Style It Happy
What’s my home style? Well I often think I don’t really have one. I don’t think anyone would walk into my house and think, oh yes, it definitely has an English Garden or French Country feel. Our kitchen is modern and spacious which we love. The room will no doubt evolve over the years as right now while the kids are still young we do have a lot of toys in there as it’s really a kitchen / family room. I think because it’s a big space, it will always stay modern and fairly minimalist although I must confess I love a farmhouse kitchen look so you never know.
We’re actually in the process of remodelling our living room after a Christmas of all squashing on the sofa because everybody wanted to sit together, including our big daft dog! I have sewing machines on our dining room table and they make the living / dining room look untidy. We never eat at the dining table because we have a kitchen island with stools and a big kitchen table. The new garden room will become my craft den which I’m pretty excited about. I’ve already got a vintage Singer sewing table and I’m planning to get a few more pieces to create a clean yet vintage look in the room. I’d love a tailors dummy and if I can pick up an old sewing machine that would sit on shelf, I’ll be happy.
The craft den will leave us the entire living / dining area to create the hygge space we’re dreaming of. We’d love to buy a corner sofa that we can all fit on so there’s no fighting over who sits where and the dog can even find a space where he’s not squashing someone! A log burning stove will hopefully be the feature of the room and I’ve been building Pinterest boards like crazy to get some fire place inspiration. I’m imagining lots of cushions, a cosy rug and the hubby is fancying a big wing back armchair.
Anyone that knows me knows that I love animal print. I’ve got no doubt it will feature somewhere in the room. We picked up two big wooden animal masks, a zebra and a giraffe, in The Lake District last year that look awesome on our wall. They’ll definitely be staying along with my other favourites, Russian dolls. I’ve always loved both animal print and Russian dolls and I try not to get dragged into crazes like gold pineapples, cactuses and pink flamingos. Find out what you actually love and stay with it. Your home will have your stamp of individuality if you do. Plan your room so that it works for you and your family. Style it happy!
