Summer Lovin’ Had Me A Blast
As I write this I’m sat at my garden table in the gorgeous sunshine, laptop open, icy drink at hand and kids playing happily. Bliss. What a summer this has been so far! I’m actually struggling to remember the last time I felt chilly.
We started the school holidays with a glorious week spent on the Northumberland coast. We’re used to planning our holiday week around good weather and bad weather days but this time it was as simple as get up, slip into our shorts and head to the beach. Amazing.
Paul decided that this was the year of the body board so on our first evening stroll into town we bought them for the kids. What was quite amusing was Paul then having to carry them around while we had a walk, went to the amusements and had fish and chips for tea. 10 out of 10 for planning, ha! They did turn out to be the best things we could have bought for our holiday although. Despite the very warm weather, the North Sea was still pretty cold so after a day of braving it in their swim suits we did go back to the surf shop and buy wetsuits for them. I, on the other hand continued to be brave in my swim suit and even managed to get some practise in for our upcoming swimming challenge! It was brilliant watching the kids’ confidence grow in the water and on their body boards. Yet again, showing how determined and resilient kids can be when they’re learning something new.
For me, it felt great to not care that I was wearing a swimsuit on a British beach where lots of other people were very much fully clothed. The kids loved that I was in the water with them and they certainly didn’t care that my wobbly bits were on show!
The week was full of sea, sand castles, kite flying, sand dune climbing and beach walks. Perfect for the whole family, a great way to tire out two kids and a dog. The weather of course helped and even though we do tend to go out whatever the weather, I’m not going to lie to you, the sunshine really does make everything seem much easier. No coats shoved in rucksacks ‘just in case’ and no dodging from one place to another to shelter from the rain.
With this gorgeous weather set to continue we’re definitely going to make the most of it. Our DIY spell is thankfully coming to a close and the list of jobs needed to be done in the house is getting smaller. We’re hoping to slot in some days out to some of our favourite places too such as York Maze, Washington Wetland Centre and of course, the beach! If we do get any rainy days we’ll be making the most of our David Lloyd family membership and if it’s sunny will be spending some time in the outdoor pool before the school holidays are over.
How are you finding the heat this summer and do you have any exciting plans over the next few weeks?
